Smoking Ban

From New York to California, banning smoking in public places has become popular safe legislation.  The smokers, too shamed by what they rightly consider a filthy habit, don’t fight back.   However a lack of public argument is not indicative of a good bill.
If people do not want to be surrounded by smokers, then they certainly have the option to not patronize the bars, restaurants, and hotels that allow it.  That is their right as a consumer, and there are many options to accommodate them.  There is no health issue, when all of the participants, including employees, choose to either smoke or be in a smoking environment.
Not only is it more reasonable for people who dislike smoking to go to smoke free establishments, they have no right to dictate that all public places follow their taste.
Rational adults should be able to choose their own lifestyles.  The majority, playing the role of Big Brother, should not be allowed to create laws limiting individual freedom unless another’s freedom is at stake.  They should not be allowed to legislate against woman speaking in public, getting ones ears pierced, or smoking in public places.
The majority just does not have the right.
